Fixed! Struber takes over traditional German club

Now it's official: Gerhard Struber has found a new club after leaving Salzburg! The 47-year-old has signed with relegated German Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln.

No details were given about the duration of the contract. "I'm approaching the task with great anticipation and a lot of positive thoughts. I'm really looking forward to getting to know the team, getting to know the coaching staff, getting to know the fans," said the Austrian after signing. Struber had to vacate his place on the Red Bull Salzburg coaching bench in April 2024.

Before his unsuccessful Salzburg stint, Struber was head coach of FC Liefering, Bundesliga club WAC, English second division club FC Barnsley and MLS club New York Red Bulls.

Relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga
Cologne was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga last season. With Struber, things are now set to pick up again. Struber is the third Austrian coach at 1. FC Köln after Ernst Ocwirk (1970-1971) and Peter Stöger (2013-2017).

"Gerhard fits our requirements profile perfectly. His ability to fit in with FC's playing philosophy and his expertise and experience in developing young players are just a few examples. In addition, Gerhard brings a great deal of conviction and the absolute will to master our sporting challenges together with a great deal of positivity, energy and hard work," said Cologne's managing director Christian Keller.
