Particulate matter levels in Salzburg have fallen significantly

According to the state's air quality report, particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide levels were at a record low in 2023. 

For example, levels of particulate matter PM2.5 - particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers - which are particularly relevant to health, have fallen by two thirds at the Rudolfsplatz measuring point in the city of Salzburg since measurements began in 2005.

For the fourth time in a row, the EU limit value (40 µg/m³) for nitrogen dioxide was also met at all measuring points.

The information threshold for ozone of 180 µg/m³ was also met on all days across the country in 2023. The highest ozone concentration was measured on August 22 at 158 µg/m³ at the Haunsberg measuring station in Flachgau, which was well below the threshold.
