Evenepoel sets an example in duel with Roglic

Remco Evenepoel has set an exclamation mark in his duel with Primoz Roglic with a time trial stage win at the Critérium du Dauphiné!

 

The 24-year-old Belgian won the 34.4-kilometre fourth stage from Saint-Germain-Laval to Neulise on Wednesday ahead of the 17-second slower Briton Joshua Tarling and took the yellow jersey in the overall standings. Favorite Roglic finished third, 39 seconds behind time trial world champion Evenepoel.

The Slovenian is now 33 seconds behind the Belgian in second place overall. The eight-day stage race, which is largely held in the Alpine region, is the classic dress rehearsal for the Tour de France (starting June 29).

Roglic was considered the favorite for overall victory at the Dauphiné. Evenepoel, who suffered serious injuries at the Tour of the Basque Country in April, wants to take part in the Tour for the first time and seems to be on a good path to top form.

The best Austrian in the time trial was Gregor Mühlberger in 47th place, 3:41 minutes behind Evenepoel. In the overall standings, the Movistar rider is also the best red-white-red participant in 35th place.
