Person gets caught in aircraft turbine and dies

A person died after being caught in an aircraft turbine at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam on Wednesday. The incident is still under investigation, according to the Dutch airline KLM. At the time of the accident, the aircraft was being prepared for take-off to Billund in Denmark.

The person, about whom no further details were given, had been sucked into the running engine. The airport team confirmed Dutch media reports and spoke of a "terrible incident." The passengers and staff of the affected aircraft were taken off the plane and looked after in the terminal.

Staff on the first day?
What led to the accident was initially unknown on Wednesday evening. An employee who was on the plane is said to have reported that the person "jumped" into the engine. He reportedly heard "hellish noise" and smoke on the plane.

According to Bild, it is suspected that the person was an employee who had had his first day at Schipol Airport and had wanted to pick up an object. In doing so, he may have accidentally come too close to the turbine.
