Knittelfeld: Crane crashes into connecting bridge

A spectacular accident occurred in the Knittelfeld area on Tuesday. A lorry driving out of town hit the new connecting bridge at the grammar school in Knittelfeld with its rear-mounted crane and severely damaged it.

The collision between the crane and the underside of the bridge caused hydraulic oil to leak out and spread across the roadway, explains Chief Fire Inspector Arnold Schlick from the Knittelfeld fire department.

While the entire area had to be closed to traffic, the 15 firefighters were deployed to bind the leaked operating fluids and clear the road of debris. They also assisted with the salvage work. The damage to the building is considerable.
