A dangerous trend put a 34-year-old Viennese man in acute mortal danger. He wanted to film himself in a mud pit in Lower Austria, but was in danger of quickly sinking. So he called the emergency services instead. A huge search operation followed for the man.

It is an extremely strange and dangerous preference to share as much as possible via social media. And it was precisely this trend that almost proved fatal for a 34-year-old man in Gänserndorf. Dressed in waders, the Viennese man deliberately got himself into an extremely dangerous situation in a pit full of mud on a company site.

"Luckily" he wanted to film himself and share it with the world. He was able to use his cell phone to alert the emergency services as he sank deeper and deeper into the mud and was no longer able to free himself. As it was not clear exactly where the 34-year-old was, a search operation was launched.

Pulled out with a winch
The man, who was already up to his chest in mud, was found just in time. The fire department secured him with boards to prevent him from sinking further before he could be winched out. The apparently uninjured man refused to go to hospital.
