The Salzburg traffic jam weekend is in full swing

Long Whitsun weekend including the start of the vacations in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg - tens of thousands of cars were already heading south on Friday. Around the major construction site on the Tauernautobahn (A10), this led to the feared traffic collapse in the afternoon!

The waiting time on the A10 was up to three hours in some places. There was block clearance from Golling. As reported, only one lane in each direction is currently available on almost 14 kilometers of the freeway due to the general renovation of five tunnels. Even on the various alternative routes through the municipalities of Hallein, Kuchl and Golling, progress was at best at walking pace - despite the strict closures imposed by the state. This made the situation even worse: The Tauern Tunnel also had to be closed for around 1.5 hours in the morning. A truck was stuck in the tunnel after an accident.

The situation is likely to get even worse on Saturday. Traffic experts are expecting even longer delays around the major construction site, including alternative routes.
