Hiker airlifted to hospital after snake bite

A 63-year-old man from Vienna was bitten by an adder in Wildalpen (Styria) on Friday afternoon. He complained of dizziness and was rescued by helicopter.

The Viennese was on a hike with his partner to the so-called tower (1750 meters) in the municipality of Wildalpen. During the hike, the man reached into a mountain pine stick with his hand. An adder snapped at him. 

The 63-year-old suffered health problems after the bite, according to the police. He complained of dizziness, for example. The couple set the rescue chain in motion.

The Christophorus 12 rescue helicopter recovered the man by rope and flew him to Leoben Regional Hospital for initial treatment. Twelve members of the Wildalpen mountain rescue team were also deployed.
