Stop in Villach
A 5-meter pig touring Austria
Over 5 million pigs are slaughtered in Austria every year. The population with an affinity for animal welfare is already waiting impatiently for a decision by the ÖVP to finally put a real end to fully slatted floors with compulsory straw bedding.
In Villach on Nikolaiplatz on Friday morning, the 5-metre tall pig "Grunzi" stood there to draw attention to the fact that fully slatted floors will be banned. "There should be an animal-friendly alternative in the future. The aim is half straw floor and half slatted floor!" says pig specialist David Richter.
"Grunzi" drives through Austria
During this campaign, passers-by are informed about the immeasurable animal suffering on fully slatted floors. "We have to draw attention to this misery throughout Austria, which is why we are touring the whole country with Grunzi," concludes Michael Mayer from VGT Carinthia.
