The car of a Bosnian man (55) suddenly caught fire in the Tauern tunnel early this morning (Thursday). The Zederhaus fire department deployed 25 men to the Tauern highway and extinguished the fire.
Shortly after 5 o'clock in the morning, the Zederhaus volunteer fire department was called to a car fire on the Tauern highway. A car was traveling in the direction of Villach and smoke suddenly appeared. When the firefighters arrived, the vehicle was already fully engulfed in flames.
As it turned out, the 55-year-old Bosnian had been alerted to the fact that his vehicle was on fire by other road users in the Tauern Tunnel. The driver was able to get out of his car unharmed and was even able to get his luggage to safety.
The burning car was extinguished using a high-pressure pipe and heavy breathing apparatus. The fire department was on site with 25 men, as were the police, Red Cross and Asfinag.
The Tauern Tunnel was closed to all traffic for an hour during the fire and the extinguishing work.
