It's getting closer and closer: the Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) is considered an aggressive threat - not only to our honey bees, but - due to its invasive nature - to biodiversity as a whole. The exotic insect could soon reach Styria. Sightings should definitely be reported. In any case, Styrian experts are on the alert.

There is excitement about a black and yellow insect: The Asian hornet - scientific name Vespa velutina - has been spotted in Austria for the first time. At the end of April, one of the killer hornets flew through an open window into the laboratory of a clinic in Salzburg. It was captured alive.
