USA revokes export licenses from Huawei suppliers
The US government has revoked some export licenses for deliveries to Huawei. The move, announced by the Department of Commerce on Tuesday, affects companies that supply the Chinese cell phone and laptop manufacturer with chips, for example. According to an insider, some of them were informed on the same day that the revocation was effective immediately. A statement from Huawei was not initially available.
The US had placed the company on a list of companies subject to trade restrictions in 2019. The reason given for this was the fear that the company could conduct espionage against US citizens for the government in Beijing. Huawei has rejected the accusations.
The US is also trying to make access to high technology more difficult for China in general. However, last month Huawei launched its first laptop designed for artificial intelligence (AI), which is powered by an Intel processor.
Republican members of Congress reacted with anger and suspected that the Department of Commerce had granted Intel a license. An Intel spokesperson declined to comment. Huawei also purchases chips from Qualcomm.
