Nine injured
Gust of wind sweeps bouncy castle and children into the Elbe
In Magdeburg in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, a gust of wind swept a bouncy castle with several children into the River Elbe (see video above). A total of nine people were injured in the accident on Sunday, including six children.
The incident occurred at a family festival. The program included a performance by the folk choir and darts soccer. A bouncy castle was also set up. However, the weather put a spanner in the works. As the newspaper "Bild" reported, a strong gust of wind whipped across the festival grounds. It caught the bouncy castle and swept it away.
Landed in the river
The inflatable landed with several children on the banks of the nearby Elbe. Two children fell into the water. The German Life Saving Association, which was on site with a stand, immediately attended to the casualties. Other rescue workers also arrived. A total of six children and three adults were slightly injured. All of them were brought to safety.
The party was stopped after the accident. The police are investigating the initial suspicion of negligent bodily harm.
