After complete fire in alpine hut: cause probably clarified
A good two weeks after the fierce fire in which a hut at around 1500 meters in the Zillertal was completely destroyed, the cause of the fire should now be clear.
On April 19, the sirens sounded in Hippach. An alpine hut was on fire at around 6 am. The emergency services were quickly on site, but were unable to prevent the hut from burning out completely. It became a victim of the flames.
A witness informed the owner, who then alerted the emergency services. The fire departments from Laimach, Schwendau, Ramsau and Zell am Ziller were called out. However, the snowy road made the approach difficult.
Cause now clear
As the fire investigators have now announced, the cause of the fire has probably been clarified: "Based on the investigation into the cause of the fire, it can be assumed that the cause of the fire was a faulty battery in an older cordless screwdriver."
