Real coach dissatisfied
“Too soft”: Ancelotti criticizes his charges
Thanks to a late penalty by Vinicius Junior (83rd), Real Madrid were able to salvage a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday. However, coach Carlo Ancelotti expects more from his players in the second leg and the Italian was not entirely satisfied with their performance in the Allianz Arena.
"I think Bayern are a great team, they showed their best face - we didn't! We lacked intensity in the tackles, especially in the first half. We didn't give our best," Ancelotti made clear after the game. "We were very deep, but we didn't defend with the same intensity as against City. We lost a lot of tackles and were too soft."
Bayern dominated the game
In fact, Bayern played almost exclusively for the first 20 minutes, with Real's opening goal through Vini Jr. in the 24th minute coming out of nowhere. The home side continued to set the tone after that, and the "royals" had to be happy with the draw at the end of the day.
Despite the criticisms, Ancelotti could also live well with a draw and a second leg at home. "We are only 90 minutes away from London," the "White Ballet" will have to mobilize all their strength once again. The final will take place on June 1 at the venerable Wembley Stadium.
