Avalanche near Bad Gastein – person rescued

In the Schareck area near Bad Gastein (St. Johann im Pongau district), a person was buried by an avalanche while ski touring at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The victim was rescued.

The Red Cross reported that the man was rescued seriously injured and flown to Schwarzach Hospital. According to the police, he had set off on the tour with two friends. The two remained unharmed.

"Swept along on the surface"
According to the police, the avalanche probably started on its own and caught the man. He was "swept along on the surface" and sustained injuries to his hand. The age and nationality of the ski tourers are not yet known.
