US police hunt down escaped zebras
Police in the US state of Washington had to carry out an animal operation on Sunday. Four zebras had escaped near a highway.
The owner - a private individual - was on his way with them to the state of Montana a little further east and had stopped to secure the van.
Police spokesman: "This is a first for me"
Police spokesman Rick Johnson documented the incident on X, formerly Twitter. "This is a first for me and everyone involved," he wrote there. "Crazy!!!" With the help of local residents, three of the animals have been recaptured for the time being. The whereabouts of the fourth animal are still unknown.
A video published on Facebook shows one of the zebras apparently roaming the garden of a residential building while a woman talks to it and tries to lure it in. "I can now put professional zebra driver on my resume," the video caption reads.
