Provincial capitals: red dominates, green polka dot gone
After the run-off election in Innsbruck, the one green mayoral dot disappears from the political map of Austria's provincial capitals. Nationwide, these are dominated by the SPÖ.
With Johannes Anzengruber (JA - Jetzt Innsbruck) replacing the Green Party's Georg Willi, the city will once again have a civic leader (probably from mid-May).

Provincial capitals: Five in red hands, ÖVP only has one mayor
Nationwide, however, the provincial capitals are dominated by the Social Democrats; after the Salzburg election, their number stands at five. In addition to the Social Democrat winner of the Salzburg election, Bernhard Auinger - who will be officially sworn in on May 8 - there are also four other Social Democrat mayors in office: Michael Ritsch in Bregenz, Klaus Luger in Linz, Matthias Stadler in St. Pölten and Michael Ludwig in Vienna. The ÖVP now only has one, namely Thomas Steiner in Eisenstadt.
Graz is communist
In Austria's second largest city, Graz, a communist mayor, Elke Kahr, is at the helm.
In Klagenfurt, Christian Scheider from Team Kärnten sits in the mayor's chair. He was previously anchored in the FPÖ and BZÖ/FPK respectively. Anzengruber in Innsbruck, on the other hand, comes from a traditional ÖVP dynasty, but broke with his political homeland.
