Google pumps three billion into new data centers
Alphabet subsidiary Google has announced a three billion dollar investment in various data centers in the USA. According to the company, the money will go towards a new data center campus in Fort Wayne in the US state of Indiana and the expansion of three existing data centers in the US state of Virginia.
The boom in artificial intelligence (AI) applications has increased the demand for cloud computing and prompted big tech companies to expand their data center capacities.
Amazon and Microsoft are also expanding their computing capacities for their AI applications - sometimes in unusual partnerships. As reported by krone.at, Amazon is investing hundreds of millions in a nuclear power plant operator in order to secure cheap electricity in the long term.
Google also announced a Google AI Opportunity Fund endowed with 75 million dollars to train Americans in the field of artificial intelligence in the future.
