61-year-old fell to his death while climbing
In front of several witnesses, a 61-year-old man from the Liezen district fell around 50 meters down the Kampermauer (Weyer district) on Sunday. All help came too late for the experienced sportsman, even immediate resuscitation measures did not help.
At around 2.20 p.m. on Sunday, witnesses reported that a person had fallen from a great height on the Kampermauer in the municipality of Weyer. The emergency helicopter "Martin 3", the Windischgarsten police, the alpine police and the mountain rescue team then went to the scene. Several climbers present at the scene attempted resuscitation until the emergency medical team arrived, but tragically all help came too late for the climber.
Unknotted rope ends
According to eyewitnesses, the 61-year-old from the district of Liezen (Styria) climbed several routes in the lead, belayed himself and was about to abseil down to his belay station. The experienced climber fell about 50 meters to the foot of the wall and suffered fatal injuries. The cause of the accident was determined by the Alpine Police to be unknotted rope ends during the abseil.
