Crash on highway
Trial after fatal accident involving young footballer
The terrible accidental death of Marko V. shocked the whole country last year. The 26-year-old footballer from Donau Linz was so badly injured in an accident on the A1 near Pucking at around 2 a.m. on November 4 that he died in hospital shortly afterwards. The trial will take place in Linz on Tuesday.
Whether the victim was actually driving as a wrong-way driver - as has always been speculated - could not be clearly clarified and does not play a role in court. According to the public prosecutor's office, everyone has to drive in such a way that they can react to an unexpected obstacle. This is precisely why a Tunisian (41) from Vienna has to answer for gross negligence manslaughter at the Linz Regional Court on Tuesday.
Too fast and distracted
He is accused of driving into the Audi of the deceased at a massively excessive speed - 155 km/h instead of 100 km/h according to an expert - and just as he was about to light a cigarette, i.e. with delayed reaction.
