Darts prodigy Littler too strong for Lerchbacher
Zoran Lerchbacher failed to spring a surprise at the Austrian Darts Open on Friday evening. The 51-year-old was beaten 2:6 in the first round by World Championship finalist Luke Littler in the Steiermarkhalle in Premstätten.
The Knittelfeld native, nicknamed "The Hypercane", kept up very well with the 17-year-old Englishman, who had just celebrated a Premier League victory in Liverpool on Thursday, at least until halfway through the match.
35,000 euros await the winner
Previously, Hannes Schnier, Christian Gödl and Dominik Haberl, the remaining three Austrians who had qualified for the European Tour tournament via a national qualifier, had also been eliminated. Austria's figureheads Mensur Suljovic and Rowby-John Rodriguez did not make it through the international qualifiers. The Austrian Open is the fifth European Tour event of the season, with 30,000 pounds (35,000 euros) awaiting the winner on Sunday.
