Two injured after accident on the highway

A sensational traffic accident occurred on the A9, the Pyhrnautobahn, near Deutschfeistritz on Friday afternoon. A child and a woman were injured.

A 46-year-old man was driving north on the Pyhrnautobahn with his wife and two children at around 3 pm. Suddenly, the driver left the road, presumably because he was asleep for a second. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the guardrail and concrete central crash barrier several times over a distance of more than one hundred meters. The front passenger and a child in the rear seat were injured. The ambulance transported both of them to Graz Regional Hospital.

The damaged car was no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away. A breathalyzer test showed a low positive reading. The man will be reported to the police. At the time the accident was being investigated, only one lane of the road was passable. There were traffic obstructions. Emergency services from the Übelbach and Deutschfeistritz fire departments, the ambulance service and the highway maintenance department were deployed.
