Memories become dance and music
Bruckner University students went to a retirement home in Linz to collect life stories - for a musical performance. Concerts are also held in the home: "Senior citizens can take part in cultural life again." The "Krone" asked.
A special student project at the Anton Bruckner Private University is called "As if in flight": young music teachers and actors joined forces for this project. "We visited residents of a retirement home in Linz," says Hannah Schimek, who is studying elementary music education.
Memories of the war
She chatted to Otwin L. there: "He's over 90 years old and he told me about his life. That he built aircraft engines and he also told me about the Second World War."
One statement particularly touched Schimek: "He said: it doesn't matter what skin color or religion a person has - it's character that counts. I think that's really beautiful."
Performance and more
Together with her fellow students, she composed a musical performance from the moments in the lives of Otwin L. and other senior citizens. A model airplane appears as a symbol for the memories of her conversation partner, and: "I play a Jewish song that stands for the horrors of the Second World War and a peace song by Bob Marley."
The course performance was recently performed at the Bruckner University and also at the senior citizens' residence. The project is extended by a request concert that students play in the retirement home.
According to the Bruckner University, "Wie im Flug" enables care home residents to participate in culture and students to gain valuable experience.
