Letter of intent
Bregenz railroad station: stakeholders give the green light
Following the decision in principle on March 21, 2024, the future of Bregenz railroad station was once again on the agenda of the city council on Thursday evening. This involved the joint declaration of intent from all project partners regarding the so-called "Variant 4a".
In addition to representatives of the city and the state, representatives of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG, Seequartier Projekt GmbH and ARE Austrian Real Estate GmbH also signed a specially drafted paper.
The following has now been finalized: the L202 provincial road will be relocated parallel to the existing railroad line. The new railroad station (including forecourt and underpass to the Festspielhaus) will be built at the current location. The construction project will be completed by a bus terminal.
"Today we are celebrating an important milestone for our state capital and the entire region! The decision in favor of 'Variant 4a' is a major step towards a positive future for our railroad station and Bregenz Mitte," announced Mayor Michael Ritsch.
Longer project
The efforts to find a joint solution for the new railroad station including bus terminal and the development of the adjacent areas now go back years. The Viennese firm Studio VlaySteeruwitz emerged as the winner of a competition held in 2022. Its project was further developed in 2023 and approved by the city, state, ÖBB and stakeholders in spring 2024 in the form of "Variant 4a".
