Baseball in Salzburg
First home appearance in two decades
Hallein's baseball players can finally compete in the Salzburg region. The field in Rif has been adapted. Braves took a step back.
Baseball fans had to wait a long time for a return to the Salzburg region. The Salzburg Hornets played their last game in the province in 2004 at the Glanspitz sports ground.
Now, 20 years later, the time has finally come again. The Braves Hallein were founded in 2021 and have been campaigning for a home venue in the province ever since. First they moved to Tyrol, then to Upper Austria. With the new season, the suffering has come to an end. The Salinenstädter took a step back and will be competing in both the Central and Tyrolean leagues this year.
We are all over the moon that this has worked out, the whole team is eager for the first game of the season
Richard Bermudez
"That's why we got the go-ahead from the association for our training pitch in Rif," beams chairman Richard Bermudez. The pitch only had to be slightly adapted and the pitching mound, which is normally filled with sand, was made from wood. "We're all over the moon that it worked out, the whole team is looking forward to the first game of the season," grins the Venezuelan.
This will take place on May 5 - a double matchday against Gramastetten. With further adaptations, the venue would also be suitable for the 2nd Bundesliga. Promotion is also the clear goal: "We want to win the title in both regional leagues!"
