Good news from the tourism industry: March also saw strong growth in guest arrivals and overnight stays.

While the mood of crisis has spread in many areas of the economy, Vorarlberg's tourism industry has nothing to complain about, at least at first glance: all tourism destinations achieved significant growth in the winter season that is coming to an end. For the months of November 2023 to March 2024, local tourism businesses reported around 1,174,400 guests (an increase of 9.4 percent compared to the same period last year) and 4,637,600 overnight stays (up seven percent). The positive development is particularly striking in Montafon, where 93,300 more overnight stays were recorded.

Muted joy
Nevertheless, tourism director Christian Schützinger is not in a jubilant mood and recommends taking a differentiated look at the figures: "The season is not over yet. But as the Easter vacations fell in March this year, we expect a correspondingly weaker result for April than last year."

What also clouds the joy considerably: the increased number of guests has not had a one-to-one effect on profits, many businesses are suffering immensely from the increased cost pressure.
