After the onset of winter, it’s getting warm and summery again

After the cold snap across the country, the weather will be much friendlier and warmer again from the weekend. Although it will still be frosty in the morning on Friday, we can expect partly foehn and mostly sunny spells from Saturday. The new week should then start with almost summer-like temperatures of up to 28 degrees.

Initially, there will still be some clouds in the west and southwest on Friday, with only partial sunshine. Isolated rain showers are also expected along and south of the main Alpine ridge. The snow line will be between 1,500 and 1,900 meters above sea level. In the rest of Austria, apart from a few patches of early morning fog, the sun will often shine at first. Source clouds will form from midday, with isolated showers possible over the mountains and in the east. However, it will mostly remain dry. The wind will be weak to moderate, occasionally brisk in the east and along the northern side of the Alps. Temperatures of between minus five and plus four degrees are possible in the morning and eleven to 19 degrees in the afternoon.

The weekend will start on Saturday with local patches of early morning fog, which will clear quickly. According to the Geosphere Austria forecast, the sun will also shine quite frequently. From midday onwards, a few clouds will form, especially over the eastern half of the country. Rain showers are also possible. However, it will remain mostly dry. The weather will be worse in East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia. The wind will blow weakly to moderately, along the foehn north side of the Alps and partly in the east briskly from east to southwest. Early morning temperatures will be between minus two and plus seven degrees. During the day, the thermometer will climb to a spring-like 14 to 22 degrees.

On Sunday, it will be very sunny in most of the country with a foehn-like southerly current. Only in the far west and southwest will there be significantly more clouds. The wind will blow from the southeast to the south, sometimes very briskly, on the eastern edge of the Alps and in foehn corridors along the northern side of the Alps. Temperatures will range from two to twelve degrees in the morning and rise to 18 to 25 degrees during the day.

According to the forecast, the new week will begin with an even stronger influence of high pressure. Plenty of sunshine is expected throughout the country on Monday. There will only be a few thin veil clouds in the sky. The wind will blow only weakly to moderately, in the eastern region and in individual foehn lines on the northern side of the Alps also briskly from east to south. Early morning temperatures will range from four to 14 degrees. During the day it will be very spring-like again with 20 to 27 degrees.

Tuesday will be even warmer: the influence of high pressure and the partly lively, foehn-like southerly current will continue to dominate the weather. In many places, there will be almost uninterrupted sunshine from early to late. At most, a few thin clouds can be spotted in high layers. Moderate to brisk winds - preferably from a south-easterly to southerly direction - will often be noticeable during the day, both in individual foehn valleys on the northern side of the Alps and in the far east. Temperatures will be around five to 15 degrees in the morning, with daytime highs of 22 to 28 degrees forecast.
