E-cars were on fire: Arson suspected
Fire alarm in the early hours of the morning in Eibesbrunn in the municipality of Großebersdorf in the district of Mistelbach in Lower Austria: a dozen electric cars were on fire on a company site. Arson is suspected.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, the fire departments around Eibesbrunn were alerted to a fire on a company site on Gewerbestrasse. Five fire brigades rushed to the scene and a level 3 fire alarm was issued. When the firefighters arrived, several electric cars were on fire. Some vehicles were spared, while others started to burn again. According to police spokesman Stefan Loidl, another vehicle was affected in addition to the twelve electric cars.
A short time later, after the emergency services had the fires under control, the Florianis were faced with another challenge. The Wolkersdorf volunteer fire department reported a "thermal runaway". The fire had repeatedly flared up in some of the vehicles due to the damaged batteries.
Suspicion of arson
The police are investigating at full speed and arson is suspected. The exact circumstances and background to the incident are currently being investigated.
