“Disgrace!” Erik ten Hag lashes out at the media

Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag gave free rein to his anger towards English journalists and supposed TV pundits at a press conference. "Your comments are a disgrace," said the Dutchman.

With the Red Devils, ten Hag made it to the FA Cup final in dramatic fashion against second division side Coventry City on Sunday. After leading 3-0 at one stage, the favorites allowed the underdogs to close the gap to 3-3 and only prevailed in a penalty shoot-out - after Coventry had even scored the would-be winner in the final minute of stoppage time, which was subsequently disallowed for offside.

"The reaction from you (journalists, editor's note) was embarrassing"
In retrospect, the ManUtd professionals and their performance were heavily criticized in the English gazettes despite the victory. This goes against ten Hag's grain, as he emphasized at the press conference before the league game against Sheffield United. "Is it embarrassing? No, the reaction from you (journalists, editor's note) was embarrassing," said the coach.

He continued: "Professional football is about results. We made it to the final. We lost control of the game for 20 minutes and were also unlucky at 2-3 and 3-3. Of course, in the end we were lucky to get through."

"Your comments are a disgrace"
From the Dutchman's point of view, the team's performance is underappreciated: "We're in the final for the second time in two years, which is wonderful. For me as a coach, it's four finals in four years. Your comments are a disgrace."

How well or badly these comments will go down with the new ManUtd management is unclear. So far, ten Hag has always been backed. Nevertheless, there is speculation that he could be replaced in the summer despite his contract remaining in force.

The Red Devils now face city rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium in London on May 25.
