Is Formula 1 on the brink of a points revolution?
On Thursday, the Formula 1 teams and managers will discuss a proposal that would see the top 12 instead of the top 10 in each race receive world championship points next season!
For this to become an issue, at least six of the ten racing teams must vote in favor.
There would be no change to the points allocation for the top 7, with eighth to twelfth receiving points from five points downwards. The current points system has been in place since 2010; until 2003, the top six scored points.
If such a change were to apply this year, all teams would already be awarded points. However, Sauber, Alpine and Williams are still empty-handed.
Incidentally, Dane Kevin Magnussen from Haas has an even more revolutionary proposal: "Everyone should get points. The first 50 points and then descending. Then nothing would change at the top and it would be more interesting at the bottom."
