Teachers urgently needed: 880 positions available
Teachers currently have good job prospects. Teachers are desperately needed throughout Austria. Also in Tyrol. The education directorate there has currently advertised 880 vacancies. In some subjects and regions, things could get tight in the fall.
Most teachers are needed in compulsory schools. There are just under 500, 269 of which are in secondary schools alone. According to Tyrol's Director of Education, Paul Gappmaier, the main focus is on the STEM subjects of mathematics, computer science and technical subjects. In addition, many new German and English teachers are needed.
Situation varies from region to region
There are 190 vacancies to be filled in Tyrolean elementary school, 228 in secondary schools and 169 in vocational schools. Gappmaier admits that experience has shown that it is more difficult to fill vacancies in valleys and remote regions. The application deadlines have recently been standardized. Interested parties can apply directly to the Education Directorate via the online application portal until May 3. A total of 11,600 teachers teach in Tyrolean schools.
The Directorate of Education is also hoping for lateral entrants. A number of certification procedures are currently underway. These people can also apply for one of the vacancies. Further vacancies will be advertised at the end of May and the end of June. If there are still vacancies for the fall, there will be another advertisement - according to information from the Education Directorate.
