Criticism of senior citizen (74)
Hunt for biker caused a “shitstorm”
A 74-year-old man was hit by a previously unknown motorcyclist in Upper Austria when he tried to slow him down because he was traveling too fast. The injured senior citizen also received a lot of criticism online for his actions.
On krone.at, there were 130 comments on our report about Josef Untermair (74) from Hofkirchen im Traunkreis and his search for the perpetrator by midday on Monday. The pensioner was hit by a previously unknown biker on April 4 when he waved to him from the side of the road.
According to Untermair, the motorcyclist was clearly traveling too fast on the stretch of road in front of his settlement. The pensioner was injured and has now offered €3,000 for information about the biker who fled the scene. So far without result.
"Self-appointed road sheriffs"
And online, the senior citizen received little support for his action, but a lot of scolding - also known as a "shitstorm". "If he does this to every motorcyclist, he won't be in hospital, but in a cemetery," said one reader. Another wrote: "Isn't it usurping authority and interfering with road traffic if I want to prevent another road user from freely choosing their speed?" And a third even commented: "I can't stand these self-appointed road sheriffs, who probably make themselves important everywhere else, anyway."
The poster who took the cake in terms of cynicism, however, was the one who cheekily wrote: "Where is that exactly? It should be easy to organize a rally with motorcycles there."
