Onset of winter: “Avoid unnecessary journeys”
Winter is returning: On Monday evening, the Styrian warning center warns of wintry weather that will reach Styria via East Tyrol and Carinthia. The snow line will drop to 300 meters by Tuesday morning.
An Italian low is the reason for the weather collapse from Monday to Tuesday in Styria. So much snow is expected that the provincial warning center is informing Styrians: "In addition to snowy roads, the potential for snowfall is high. Wintry road conditions are an issue at higher altitudes."
First rain and then snow set in from the southwest on Monday evening - initially up to 900 meters. During the night, the snow line in the southwest (Voitsberg, Deutschlandsberg and Leibnitz) will drop to 300 to 500 meters! The districts of Graz-Umgebung, Leoben, Voitsberg, Weiz, Murtal, Bruck-Mürzzuschlag and Hartberg-Fürstenfeld may also be affected. Up to 50 centimetres of snow are expected on the Pack, forecasts Asfinag. The peak is expected to be midnight.
Allow time for the journey to work
Pipes and roads could be affected by the snowfall. You should never drive on pass roads with summer tires. Problems with early morning traffic are to be expected on Tuesday. "Avoid unnecessary journeys by car and be aware of the dangers of winter road conditions," says the regional warning center.
