Only the weather gods know when the outdoor pools open

It has long since ceased to be a fixed date when and where you can splash around. Most local swimming oases open their gates depending on the temperature. Even the Linz AG pools, which usually open punctually on May 1st, will be subject to the whims of the changeable weather this year. 

The local weather is becoming increasingly unpredictable. In the early summer phase, when Upper Austria almost broke the 30 degree mark, many people were in an outdoor pool mood. Since then, however, temperatures have dropped dramatically again, in some cases even to below 0 degrees.

Gmunden uncompromising
But when does the outdoor pool season really start? Anyone who absolutely has to get into the water on May 1st, whatever the weather, will be drawn to Gmunden: The Gmunden lido opens its gates on time, no ifs, ands or buts. Traditionally, this would also be the case in Linz, but this year Linz AG has announced that it will also be guided by the weather.

Be ready earlier
The pool operators in Steyr, Braunau and Perg are doing the same. In Schärding and Freistadt, it should be possible to swim outside from May 17th at the latest, weather permitting. The pool operators want to be able to cope with different weather conditions in future: instead of fixed opening dates, the pools are to be prepared early and opened as required - at least where this is administratively possible.
