Open-road chase in the 16th district
A man evaded arrest in Vienna on Monday afternoon: first he accelerated in his car and then gave chase on foot with several police officers.
At around 11 a.m. on Monday, police officers wanted to stop a driver in the 17th district to carry out a routine check. But the driver accelerated and several police cars followed.
During the chase, the fugitive collided with at least ten parked cars.
In the course of the pursuit, the suspect is also said to have rammed into and damaged patrol cars. The man was finally stopped in the Thaliastraße area in the 16th district.
Continued to flee on foot
But the operation was far from over. The driver jumped out of his car and continued to chase the police on foot. However, he was arrested after a short escape - without shoes.
He is a 29-year-old Turkish national. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol at around one per mille and a small quantity of drugs was seized. The suspect and an officer were slightly injured during the operation.
