In Grödig it’s almost like the basement of the table

The successes of the stragglers are dragging half of the Salzburg league into the relegation battle. However, former Bundesliga side Grödig, who are still waiting for their first win of the spring, are the most worried. Boss Christian Haas was in Turkey last weekend.

Sometimes it helps when the strong men are not watching their clubs in the decisive phase of the championship. This was the case for Bürmoos at the start of the final third of the Salzburg League season. The team from Flachgau were on course for victory for a long time against leaders Kuchl after Suljic's dream goal, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the end. And that was in the absence of boss Eckschlager, who preferred a less nerve-wracking soccer trip to Turkey with Grödig manager Christian Haas. Meanwhile, coach Daniel Buhacek was delighted with a "bonus point, despite many absentees".

Straßwalchen were also affected, as sporting director Chudoba was at a birthday party in Slovakia during the 2:1 win against Grödig. The first win since mid-March was all the more important for the team, as coach Bernhard Huber-Rieder had expected a three-pointer against penultimate-placed Anif. "The performance has been appealing recently, and now the result was right again."

Disillusioned was Grödig coach Arsim Deliu, who still has to wait for his first league win this year. Absences - this time it was ex-professional Völkl's calf - are a huge drain, internal chats are doing the rounds. The lacklustre team, with Kanzler and Wienerroither on the verge of leaving and Gsenger and Niedermüller set to arrive from Eugendorf, remains in fourth place. However, the coach said thoughtfully: "I can't think of another club where I would still be coach."

Victory from a direct corner
The Anif win means everything is tighter at the back again. Eleven teams are within twelve points of each other. Henndorf suffered twice, losing 2-1 at Siezenheim and captain Höfler (season-ending ankle injury). Meanwhile, Bramberg made up important ground, beating Puch 1-0 thanks to a direct Panzl corner.
