Fan.at match of the round
“Actually, both deserved to be promoted”
Only the weather didn't play ball. Otherwise, everything was in place for a top-class derby. And so 500 spectators turned up for the 1st class South clash between undefeated leaders Bruck and runners-up Lenzing, who were only two points behind.
The starting position was a tough one. After the first leg, Lenzing had changed coaches following a disastrous start to the season. The record of Florian Margesin, who has been in charge since then? "Eleven wins in 13 games. You could call that a coaching effect," grinned section manager Philipp Hainzer. After two recent draws for the leaders, the Lenzing side had high hopes for a direct clash, which was voted fan.at's match of the round.
Top scorer strikes again
In the end, the score was 1:1, which only the home side were happy with after 90 hectic minutes with various interjections from the stands. Home-grown Fabrice Maahs put the Deussen boys ahead with a shot from a turn after a cross and a defender losing possession (29'). It was the leading scorer's 23rd goal of the season.
"After the break, we switched to counter-attacking," said home side coach Uwe Deussen, the only away player in the team with son Marvin. Lenzing pressed for a long time - and were rewarded with the equalizer late on. Stefan Reinbacher scored what Hainzer described as the "second headed goal of his career" (87') and the match ended in a draw.
"Two lost points"
The visitors were not happy despite the late equalizer. "That was two points lost," summed up guest coach Margesin. Deussen confirmed: "We still have it in our own hands, there's no reason to be negative. Of course we are undefeated and the competition is now saying after three draws: What's wrong with the Bruckers? But we're playing an outstanding season!" The only aspect that Hainzer doesn't like: "After a season like this, both teams actually deserve to be promoted!"
