Burgenland tour
A successful summiteer in the lowlands
Rolf Majcen visited all 23 summit crosses in the state within 16 hours. In the process, he covered 36 kilometers on foot.
Rolf Majcen got up at three o'clock in the morning and drove from Teesdorf to Neusiedl am See, where his round trip was to begin.
The Lower Austrian wanted to visit all 23 summit crosses in Burgenland in just one day - and the mission was a flawless success. The 57-year-old walked for 16 hours, although he did of course cover the journey by car.
Start at the Calvary
At five o'clock, the Calvary (159 m) in Neusiedl was ticked off. "The view over the illuminated churches to the Leitha Mountains reminded me of mountain villages in the Dolomites," says the experienced alpinist and mountain runner. The route took us to Donnerskirchen to the Atonement Cross on the Kirchberg (269 m). "Dawn over Lake Neusiedl. Wonderful!" He headed south via Oggau and St. Margarethen, where Majcen ran from Bonisdorf up the Stadelberg (418 m). Arrival: 8.45 pm. Last stop.
"Only the hooting of the owls interrupted the silence. I reviewed the past hours. 23 summit crosses. From northern Burgenland on a scenically unique, incredibly beautiful route to southern Burgenland. A fantastic experience."
Impressive record
Majcen covered 36 kilometers in just one day and overcame a total of more than 1500 meters in altitude. Unbelievable, actually.
Why did he do it?
"I would like to show off my multimedia show in Eisenstadt and other places in Burgenland." He doesn't want to enrich himself - admission will be free.
