30 km/h: this is what the Carinthian municipalities are planning

It has been a long, hard struggle, but now the breakthrough has finally been achieved: New legal framework conditions enable greater road safety. Speed cameras are also possible.

The mobility organization VCÖ points out that in Carinthia, almost 60 percent of traffic accidents and almost 90 percent of pedestrian accidents occur in the local area. A speed limit of 30 instead of 50 km/h halves the stopping distance, reduces the number and severity of accidents and saves lives. Especially in areas where there are more children and older people on the road, such as in front of schools, kindergartens, retirement homes, hospitals or leisure facilities, the local authorities will probably be using 30 km/h speed limit signs more often.
