The skate park in Gmunden has been out of action since 2022. A storm damaged the centerpiece of the facility. All attempts to get the city to agree to a renovation failed. An online petition with 750 people turned the tide. The city holds out the prospect of support for the "asphalt surfers".

The skate park in Gmunden has been off-limits since the storm last year. The wooden pyramid, which is more than 15 years old, was destroyed. "Without this central element, the entire area is unusable," regrets former professional skateboarder Michael Nadler. Last season was a complete washout. And this year, too, the area lies fallow. Nadler's interventions with the city authorities for an investment of around 40,000 euros to renovate the facility were unsuccessful for a long time.

Now, a few days ago, it launched the online petition "Save the Gmunden skate park". The response was enormous. Within a short space of time, more than 750 people signed the petition and posted around 300 comments. They shook the politicians awake.

Solution to be presented
"The sports officer responsible, Max Attwenger, has informed me that he will soon be presenting a solution. Apparently there is now a budget for the renovation of the skate park after all," says Nadler with relief. "Without a functional skate park, our community will lose an essential place for sport, socializing and youth development.
