Ferry crashes into quay in Naples – 29 injured
On Friday morning, a ferry collided with the quay in Naples while docking. At least 29 people were injured, including one woman seriously. It is assumed that the captain lost control due to a strong gust of wind.
The ferry had previously battled its way through two-metre-high waves during the crossing from the Italian Mediterranean island of Capri to the mainland. Around 100 passengers were on the "Isola di Procida" at the time of the accident.
The 29 injured, including many tourists, were taken to hospitals as a precaution. Most of them escaped with minor injuries, but one woman was seriously injured. The G7 foreign ministers have been meeting on the island of Capri in the Gulf of Naples since Wednesday.
Capri is one of Italy's most popular tourist destinations. Several tens of thousands of people visit every day during the high season. The crossing from the mainland takes about an hour.
