Cheaper energy possible through cooperatives
Burgenland is a pioneer when it comes to sustainable energy. Members of cooperatives can save money when buying and selling electricity.
Generating sustainable energy together and sharing it at fair and stable prices - that is the aim of Burgenland's energy cooperatives. One year after the first electricity volumes were traded within the energy cooperatives, the mark of 3,000 participants was exceeded. "With the energy cooperatives, we are able to secure environmentally friendly and affordable electricity from sustainable sources directly in the region. We cover almost 100 percent of Burgenland," says Eva Fugger, Deputy General Manager of Raiffeisenlandesbank Burgenland, who is in charge of the project.
What does that mean?
Without financial risk or any additional costs, you participate 1) as a photovoltaic owner or 2) as a consumer in the cooperative and save money. "We are not working against Energie Burgenland and Netz Burgenland, but with them," says Fugger. The project has been running for a year. The aim is to have 6000 participants by 2025.
