Emotional presenter
Kate Abdo bursts into tears in the middle of an interview
Star presenter Kate Abdo gave free rein to her emotions during an interview with former footballer Tony Meola. When the former US goalkeeper spoke about his children, Abdo suddenly burst into tears. The reason: memories of her father Tom Giles, who passed away in December, came flooding back.
Kate Abdo is a TV star in the UK and especially the USA. Together with ex-internationals such as Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, she presents and analyzes Champions League matches for "CBS". In her soccer show "Kickin' it", ex-goalie Tony Meola answered the presenter's questions this time.
In the interview, the 55-year-old emphasized that he was "the biggest fan" of his children and that training with his daughter was "one of the coolest parenting experiences I've ever had", said Meola. Statements that touched Abdo deeply. "I just lost my father in December. The time I spent with him playing sports was everything to me," said the 42-year-old, who suddenly had tears rolling down her cheeks.
"So to hear how much that means to you is special. What's special about sport is that it teaches you determination, commitment and perseverance. What I like about my father is the role model he was for me. The good character I saw in him. And the fun we had in those moments," said Abdo.
Start in Germany
Abdo's presenting career took off in Germany. From 2011, she worked for Sky Deutschland, later moved to RTL and then co-hosted the show "1000 - Wer ist die Nummer 1?" with Johannes B. Kerner. From Germany, she first went to Sky England and then to Fox in America. In 2020 she switched to CBS.
