Kahn talks about Nagelsmann and future plans
Oliver Kahn breaks his silence! The ex-Bayern boss commented on the situation at the Munich club and also spoke about his - very interesting - plans for the future. On the dismissal of Nagelsmann, he said: "It didn't go well and it still bothers me today."
Together with former sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, Kahn was responsible for Julian Nagelsmann having to vacate his coaching position in March 2023. The current German national team coach is currently being linked with Bayern again. Was Nagelsmann's release a mistake at the time? "At the time, we saw our sporting success at risk and therefore made what was certainly not an easy decision. I've often said that I thought it was very bad HOW this decision was then implemented. It didn't go well, and that still bothers me today," Kahn told "Sportbild".
"Why not?"
Kahn can well imagine Nagelsmann returning to Bayern. "Why not? He has had other experiences. That was the case with some Bayern coaches, above all Jupp Heynckes, but also Giovanni Trapattoni and Ottmar Hitzfeld, who returned to Bayern at a more mature age," said Kahn.
Kahn wants to become a club owner
And what are Kahn's plans for the future? He no longer wants to work as managing director or sports director in the future, but would rather flirt with the highest position, that of club owner. "For me, that's a logical next step and a very exciting topic that we shouldn't just leave to others," said Kahn, citing David Beckham and Inter Miami as examples. "The soccer of the future shouldn't just be dominated by people who have never been on a pitch and have no real relationship with the game."
Beckham had "done a lot of things right in Miami and set up something completely new and nobody will deny that a great footballer is doing everything for soccer. I like that," said Kahn. "In general, I would like to see more ambitious former players taking on important positions in soccer again and assuming responsibility."
