Police warn:
Beware of QR codes on postal notifications
The Styrian police issued a warning on Tuesday about a new form of fraud in connection with supposed postal notifications: recipients are redirected to a fake website via a QR code attached to the fake notification, where they are asked to enter sensitive personal data.
On the postal notifications deposited in the mailboxes, the unknown perpetrators state that the document to be collected is about "expired registration forms".
According to the police, the recipients land on the - fake - website of the Central Register of Residents (ZMR) via the QR code. An attempt is then made to retrieve personal data. "This is another form of phishing," the police pointed out.
"Do not scan this QR code. Never click on the link. Do not enter your data on the page under any circumstances," it said on the Swiss Post website.
