House in USA hit: Space debris came from ISS

A 700-gram object that fell from space onto a house in the US state of Florida at the beginning of March came from the International Space Station (ISS), NASA confirmed on Monday.

According to the US space agency, the object is a fragment of a cargo pallet of old batteries - waste that was dropped from the ISS in 2021. It should have entered the atmosphere "safely" and crashed into the sea.

On March 8, a resident of Naples, Florida, found a gray object that he said had crashed through the roof and two floors of his house. The resident informed NASA about the incident.

NASA explained that it was investigating why the 700 gram object was not completely destroyed in the atmosphere and whether practices need to be changed.
