There has been another knife attack in the Australian metropolis of Sydney (see video above). Police announced on Monday that the suspected attacker was arrested after stabbing several people in the west of the city. According to local media, the knife attack took place in a church.

The victims, including a priest, suffered "non-life-threatening injuries". The AFP news agency was informed by the emergency services that four injured people had been treated. They were men between the ages of 20 and 70 who mainly suffered cuts.

Images from a live broadcast show a man approaching the altar, raising his right arm and stabbing the priest with a knife. Panic broke out among the faithful and screams rang out. The suspected attacker was arrested.

Mentally ill man killed six people
It was only on Saturday that a mentally ill man carried out a knife attack in the busy Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in Sydney's east. The 40-year-old killed five women and one man. Twelve other people were hospitalized, including a baby.

The attacker was stopped after his violent attack, which lasted around half an hour, by a policewoman who stood in his way alone and shot him dead.

As the police announced on Monday, the knife attacker on Saturday had apparently targeted women. Investigators ruled out a terrorist background. The perpetrator's father told journalists about his son's possible motive: "He wanted a girlfriend, but he had no social skills and was frustrated."
