Viennese man dies during mountain tour in Styria
The mountain tour of a 53-year-old Viennese man in the Hochschwab region of Styria came to a tragic end: after the man failed to return from his hike on Sunday, search teams found his body on Monday morning.
The weather on Sunday could not have been more ideal for a mountain hike. Nevertheless, a hike in Upper Styria ended fatally for a Viennese man.
According to the police, the 53-year-old was still sending photos from the summit of the "Messnerin", a mountain near Tragöß in the Hochschwab region, on Sunday morning. However, as the man did not return in the evening, relatives informed the police.
Sad certainty on Monday morning
The mountain rescue team, fire department and police immediately launched a major search operation. The Viennese man's cell phone was also located and a police helicopter with night vision capability was deployed.
The search was initially unsuccessful, but on Monday morning a search party found the man's lifeless body. According to initial investigations by the Alpine Police, the man had probably climbed several times and finally suffered a cardiac arrest while searching for the right path.
