Scherzinger: Sexy performance at the Olivier Awards
The reworking of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Sunset Boulevard" was the big winner at the Olivier Awards presented in London on Sunday evening with seven prizes, more than any other musical before it.
Among other things, it was honored as best musical revival. The awards for best actress and best actor in a musical went to the two leading actors Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Francis.
Scherzinger not only caused a stir as the winner, but also with her revealing outfit, which emphasized her petite figure. The Pussycat Dolls star looked super-sexy in her dress with an impressive cleavage and a leg slit that reached down to her hips.
Snook best actress
Jamie Lloyd received the award for best director. The bombastic musical based on the Billy Wilder film of the same name from the 1950s also received awards for Best Lighting Design, Best Musical Contribution and Best Sound Design at the ceremony in the Royal Albert Hall. The Laurence Olivier Awards are considered the highest accolade in British theater.
Australian Sarah Snook followed up her recent success with the television series "Succession" by winning Best Actress for her West End debut in "The Picture of Dorian Gray".
London's National Theatre won three awards, including Best New Play for the soccer drama "Dear England".
Mark Gatiss was named Best Leading Actor for his performance in "The Motive and the Cue", a National Theatre production of the Broadway production of "Hamlet" in which John Gielgud (played by Gatiss) and Richard Burton clash over "creative differences".
Best new entertainment show
"Stranger Things, The First Shadow", a stage adaptation of part of the successful Netflix series "Stranger Things: The First Shadow", won in the categories "New Entertainment", "Comedy" and "Set Design".
"Operation Mincemeat", a play about a British military feint to deceive the Nazis, won Best New Musical.
